In 2012, the film festival will include an expanded BIFF Kids section will showcase documentaries and a 'Books to Film' programme on weekday mornings. An increased selection of short films, accommodating the Academy's requirements, will focus on that wonderful storytelling form - to the point and compelling. BIFF will feature popular international award winners in the world cinema strand. BIFF will also be introrucing a few new film categories in celebration of our 15th Anniversary.

Film categories
After-Hours- Provocative, controversial and uncompromising visions that take an innovative approach to the art of storytelling.
BIFF Kids- Films that provide cultural enrichment for children and adults alike.
Masterworks- Films made by the most influential auteurs living today.
Opening/Closing Night- Crowd pleasing films featuring an all star cast.
Modern Masters- Exciting new works crafted by some of the most acclaimed directors working today.
Short Films- Short narrative, documentary, and animated films from emerging filmmakers from all over the globe.
World Cinema- The best narrative and documentry films from around the world and everywhere in between.
