Film Submissions

The Bermuda International Film Festival prefers online entries submitted via Withoutabox.com, which provides cost-saving, paperless submission to film festivals around the world. Withoutabox's internet-only submission platform features online applications via one master entry form, online fee payments, press kits, and the option to use Secure Online Screeners, an economical, eco-friendly, and secure alternative to traditional hard-copy DVD submissions. Fill out one master entry form and take advantage of quick entry, extended deadlines, and powerful submission management tools. There's no extra cost to you, and by submitting, you'll join Withoutabox's global filmmaker community and stay in the loop about international exhibition opportunities.



The Bermuda International Film Festival hosts an international competition for Live Action Narrative and Documentary Short Films under 40 minutes. BIFF is proud to announce that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences® has named BIFF a qualifying festival in the category of Live Action Short Film. Winners of the BIFF Best Live Action Short Film award may qualify to enter the Short Films category of the Academy Awards® for the concurrent season, provided the films otherwise comply with the Academy rules.

Over the Phone

The Narrative Short film winner will take home a cash prize of $1000 and qualify for Academy Award consideration. All in-compeition films will be eligible for the People's Choice Award which is a cash prize of $500. BIFF is proud of the short film winners from past festivals that have gone onto successful careers and that have won Oscars. Shorts from previous editions include the Oscar winning films WASP and TOYLAND as well as the Oscar nominated films MIRACLE FISH; DEATH OF A SHADOW; ASAD; and HENRY.

In Person

BIFF also accepts Feature and Short films directed by a Bermudian citizen or permanent resident, and produced or co-produced in Bermuda. These films will be showcased in our From the Onion Patch section.
